The first factor in the trio that will make or break your SEO success is the URL. Most websites today are doing well in this front by keeping their URLs as simple and as descriptive as possible. It is just not the domain name but all the inner pages too can be named descriptively to take advantage of ranking. For instance if you have a page for services instead of naming that page as “services.htm” you can name it as “seoservcies.htm” if you are offering SEO services. Unlike before these days search engine algorithms are becoming increasingly intelligent to pick the words in the URLs. You do not have to pay anything extra to anyone to ask them to name the files in an SEO friendly manner. Make sure that the URL of each page has the main keyword as part of the URL.
The second in the trio is the title tags. Many webmasters fail here and we can see the Dreamweaver default name – “Untitled.htm” as the page title for the inner pages. Often only the home page will have the title included and that too the name of the company. In some cases, it will be totally the title tag efforts will be taken totally to the other extreme. The title of the page will have 20 to 25 keywords in them. Many webmasters try to include all the keywords they include under the meta keywords section in the page title too. This should be avoided or else it will dilute the effectiveness of the most important keywords. You must make sure to include the keywords that you use in the URL to be the first term in the page title. If you named your page as “seoservices.htm” then your page title should start with “SEO services” your company name can be included in the rear end of the title. Because number of people who search using the name of your company will be just a fraction of people, who will be using SEO services to look for SEO services. So you need to bolster your main keyword more than your company name.
The third factor in the trio is the meta description of your page. This is the text that is displayed as description about your site when it is listed by the search engines. Your page title will appear as the heading of the listing and the meta description content is what will appear to the users. This is an important aspect because the users are prompted to click on your listing based on this text. If it matches, their search they will decide to enter your website if not they will move to the other results. So you can lose visitors by not using appropriate page title and good meta descriptions. You might be getting the most desired #1 position in the search results but still your visitors might be ignoring you and going to the next result because you have not paid attention to the basics. Then you can be sure that you have wasted all your time, money and energy on your SEO.
