There are number of misconceptions about Google which we must do away with because our misconceptions may affect our site’s optimization and SEO maintenance efforts. Here are few misconceptions that we must be aware of to save ourselves from wasting our time in wrong SEO efforts.
One of the main misconceptions that people have is with regard to the back links. Many of us think that our search engine’s ranking in Google depends on the number of back links we have for our website. This is true to a certain extent but it is not completely true. If we don’t understand how Google calculates our pagerank and our search engine ranking based on the back links we will engage acquiring links that do not bring the desired results. More than the number of the links your website has, the quality of the links is highly important. You can have 50 links from websites with no pagerank but they may not be of any importance on the other hand when you have just 2 links from websites with PR 7 or 8 and this will improve your ranking tremendously. This is just an example which is not an accurate portrayal of how exactly Google calculates the search ranking based on the back links. So the next time you are working on your link building, make sure to look for methods that will fetch you links from pages with high PR.
The next important misconception that makes many webmasters spend a lot of energy is the belief that DMOZ listing will ensure special ranking from Google. There is no doubt that DMOZ is an important directory and that Google gives great credit to DMOZ listing but you don’t get any special favors from Google just because you are listed in DMOZ.
There are some webmasters believe that Google gives importance to sites that display adsense ads because Google generates revenue from such sites. Nothing can be further from the truth. Google algorithm does not take into consideration your adsense status. The search ranking for your site is independent of your adsense status. So never buy into this idea. Google adsense does affect your ranking in anyway.
Google does not index dynamic pages is yet another popular misconception. Yes, at one time search engines had problems with dynamic pages. But now the search engine algorithms are more sophisticated to index dynamic pages too. However, static pages are more preferred because if your dynamic pages happen to push the search bots into infinite loop then indexing your site will become a problem; so webmasters consider that static pages are safer.
Another misconception is concerning meta tags. Meta tags will get you good ranking is the next misconception. Meta tags do not get you good ranking though they have their own benefit though it does not increase or improve the ranking.
