SEO as an Art Form

SEO is more than slapping some keyworded content up and building a few links. Done properly, SEO is an art form, where all the dots connects and all the lines harmonize.

First, content. Content is ideally a simple page full of informative easy to read text in a simple font with no glaring highlighting and minimal bolding. Subheadings can be used to make the text easier to read and emphasize important information. Keywords should be used naturally, with one main keyword or keyword phrase and a grouping of long tail keyword phrases in addition (3-5 maximum).

Second, tags. Properly tagging the content on your site will help search engines identify your relevance and rank you appropriately (see post about meta-tags for more info on this important step). You should also be tagging or captioning all of your images and videos on site to assist in developing your relevance in the view of the search engines.

Third, links. These should be links from relevant websites or from content you have put out on the web or from social networking/bookmarking sites. Look for sites with high PR and relevance to your own site, and make sure they are do-follow links.

Fourth, social presence on the web. Local is where it’s at, and no matter where you are you can create a ‘community’ on Facebook and Twitter to boost your online visibility.

Use everything you can to create a network of visibility – article marketing, blogging, Squidoo, Hub Pages, etc. Interlink and build an empire online that shows you are the expert in your field.

Once you’ve created this empire, build on the foundation and keep expanding your borders. Look for related niches you can expand into, and leverage your name to increase customer attention and build your brand.

SEO is more than a set of formulas – if done right, it can be elevated to an incredible latticework that pleases more than just the search engines and it becomes a smoothly working machine!
