Here are another five tips you should take note of – myths that need to be busted before they do any more damage!
6. Reciprocal Links. They are not bad, they will not result in penalties. All you have to do is make sure all of your links are RELE
VANT. Link out to relevant sites, get links from relevant sites. It IS that simple.
7. Flash. Any text that you place INSIDE Flash will not be readable by a search engine, but this doesn’t mean avoid flash completely. You can incorporate Flash into your site through pictures or a header on the page. Just don’t have an all Flash site or use a Flash intro. Make sure you leave room for crawlable text.
8. Pay-Per-Click. Google has separated the two areas of organic and paid listings so that they really do not affect each other. You can have pay-per-click, and still build an organic site; it’s not ‘one or the other’ as some SEMs would have you believe.
9. Site Updates. Updating your site often should only be done if you have something new to say. Regularly add legitimate content like articles, press releases and blog entries. Don’t ping the search engines all the time for minor changes – this is the boy crying wolf.
10. Doorway Pages. Hundreds of one page sites loaded with keywords that link to you from various domains is considered spamming the search engine. Anytime you see the word spam, you should take away ‘DON’T DO THIS’. Properly optimize your site and focus on the correct way to get listed, and you will increase your ranking much faster anyway.
