  • Making the Most of Your Content

The content appearing on your site or blog, or that you submit to the web in any way, shape or form, needs to be optimized to get the most mileage out of it. This  is not just in regards to text, but photos, videos, articles, landing pages, press releases, advertisements alike. No matter what you are submitting, each and every piece of content, large and small, which you post should be optimized.

If you develop this habit from the start, it won’t be so hard and feel like a chore.  If you start out correctly, have your lists of keywords at the ready, and are ready to get to work, it is a snap to do things right. You can check over your keyword list each time you sit down to write an article. Including something useful to link to each time will become a good habit that is second nature. You’ll just do the right thing without even thinking about it.

In regards to textual content – the biggest mistakes most people make have to do with incorrect keyword optimization. You need to ensure that you use your keywords in your content in a manner that it appears natural and not forced. If it looks and reads like keyword stuffing, you are doing it wrong. , Pay attention to the keyword placement in the header or title, the beginning of body of text, the middle and again at the end of the text.

If you do happen to fall into the trap of keyword stuffing, Google will not appreciate your attempts to game the system. You will end up with piles of content that is garbled and difficult to read – basically useless. Remember, optimize for the user first, the search engines second! Too many keywords are as bad as too few. If the user cannot make heads or tails of what you wrote, it is useless regardless of how well it is keyed.

When working with website pages, you need to optimize for keywords that you are trying to get  your site to rank for. For articles, you can concentrate on the long tail keyword phrases, answering questions such as how and where, and giving useful information that will encourage readers to follow through to your site. This is a formula that works without fail when implemented correctly and given ample time.

Make sure that you spread the love around! Take each article and rework it into a blog post, a press release, another article for a different directory, a squidoo lens, an ad series, a video, a How to or Top ten list, a comment or two for forums, and an extra page for your website. There is nothing wrong with re-working the same content into unique and new pieces that you can re-use in other venues. So long as it is unique, it isn’t gaming the system, it is working smarter rather than harder.

Make it a point to treat each article that you write to this process. By doing so, you will always have fresh and interesting content hitting the search engines which is always a good thing. Make sure that you link back to your main site whenever the opportunity presents itself.  Whether you link to the home page or a deep link to an inner page, never pass up the opportunity to optimize your anchor text in each link.
