  • 10 Link Baiting Tips

Looking for tips on how to bait your way to more links? White hat is the way to go, and these tips will knock your competition’s socks off!

    1. If you offer a useful tool or gadget on your site, others will link to you to share the good news about your nifty invention. If you have a version with a widget so they can just add the button to their site, youc an include a link so you get one automatically.

    2. Surveys and quizzes are great, and many people will repost them on their own blog or site, giving you another opportunity for a link. Contests are great, too.

    3. News. Beak a big story, and scoop the competition – a friend of mine recently was one of the first to write about a major news event, and with clever use of keywords she ended up right under CNN for the keywords associated with the story. Imagine how many people linked back to her story! An expose can also work well – people love a scandal.

    4. Top ten lists, awards lists, etc – people do enjoy simple sound bytes, so break down some of the duller stuff and repackage for the masses. You can make anything entertaining if you try hard enough.

    5. Funny stuff. The funnier the better. A joke, a picture or a video can be viral. Passed along from person to person, you can end up with it spread across the social media networks in no time.

    6. Offer an incentive for the best idea ever. Maybe a nobody out there has the perfect idea for linkbait and youc an cash in. Or, run a blog out, and see how many other blogs you can get to link to you in your niche – make it a compatition with another blog, and see how high you can ramp up interest.

    7. Design a template. If you have a kickass template for your blog or website, you can pass it on with a link embedded for others to use and you will benefit from whatever PR they accumulate.

    8. Post a rant. People love controversy, so be controversial! “The ten things I hate about —” is always a good approach.

    9. Post a great FAQ or stats on something popular – many people look for specific stats on things and will link back if they use the info in a blog or article of their own.

    10. Give a freebie. This is still the most time honored way of creating buzz and getting linkbacks. Just come up with somthing cool, and give it away!
